Some residents of George have started a petition to authorities to make the city's roads safer.
This follows Friday's horrific accident in which 21-year-old, Caroline van der Merwe, was killed and several other people seriously injured in Knysna Road.
According to the petition, Knysna Road is carrying more traffic due to increased development in the area.
Petitioners are calling for the speed limit on that road to be reduced to 60 kilometres an hour and for permanent speed cameras to be installed.
The mother of the young victim said that her daughter's death cannot be in vain.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, says they're investigating claims that the two cars that collided with Van Der Merwe's vehicle late on Friday night, may have been racing each other.
A case of culpable homicide was opened.
No arrests have been made.
