A George police officer sustained serious injuries to his neck and shoulder after he was stabbed by a suspect during a scuffle on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies says the circumstances surrounding the attack in Melford Notshokovo Street are under investigation.
He said police were dispatched to a scene where three men were involved in a fight.
Spies said when the officers arrived they came under attack and a scuffle ensued resulting in serious injury to the Sergeant.
He said the suspect fled the scene on foot in the direction of Thembalethu where he was later arrested.
Spies said the police officer is being treated in a George hospital and is in a serious condition, while the suspect was also hospitalised and discharged later.
“He remains in custody and is facing a charge of attempted murder,” he said.
The suspect is due to appear in court later this week.
