Police in Thembalethu in George, have appealed to the public for help in tracing the driver of a car who knocked down two people on New Year's Day and then sped away.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Dumile Gwavu, says they're looking for the driver of a Toyota Avanza who allegedly failed to stop at an intersection, mowing down a man and a woman.
He says a 21-year-old woman sustained serious injuries to her upper body while a 25-year-old man who was also injured has since been discharged from hospital.
Gwavu says the driver, who faces a charge of reckless and negligent driving, fled the scene.
Anyone who can assist in identifying the driver and the vehicle should contact Thembalethu police.
