Outeniqua Transport Musuem
A 45-year-old man was jailed for an effective 12 months after being convicted of contravening the National Heritage Resources Act.
The Hawks said Nzaweka Tawule was sentenced in the George Regional Court on Thursday for stealing some of the model steam locomotives on display at the Outeniqua Transport Museum in the city.
Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani said last December it was discovered that some of the model steam locomotives on display at the Outeniqua Transport Museum in George were stolen and others damaged.
She said the subsequent investigation led to Tawule's arrest in May.
"Thick-walled copper pipes were recovered in his possession. He was positively linked to the theft of some of the steam locomotives," she said.
Hani said Tawule was convicted in August of theft and malicious damage to property, and subsequently sentenced to an effective 12 months behind bars.
