Nelson Mandela Bay’s main catchment area in the Langkloof has received some welcome rain over the past 48 hours, at a time when the main supply dams are at a total combined capacity of just over 12%.

Local weather office spokesperson Garth Sampson reports that Kareedouw received a healthy 26 mm of rain up until 8 o’clock on Friday morning while Joubertina 50 km to the west only received 2.8 mm.

In the Metro itself, 14.6 mm of rain has fallen at the airport over the past two days.

East London received 49.6 mm over the same period and Bhisho 31.8 mm.

Mthatha measured 23.6 mm and Makhanda 18.4 mm.

Elsewhere along the coast, Plettenberg Bay and Port Alfred both received just under 22 mm of rain.

Cloudy and cool conditions with rain along the coast and adjacent interior are forecast for the remainder of Friday into Saturday.

Light snow is also expected along the Sneeuberg on Saturday night.
