George mayor, Charles Standers, says the upgrading of the city's road infrastructure is indicative of their commitment to establishing an enabling environment that puts people back to work.
Standers was speaking at the official opening of the R105m Blanco Road in George on Wednesday.
In his speech, Standers said that the "opening opening of yet another landmark infrastructure development aimed at improving the existing transport network not only of the city of George, but for the region and province."
"Today's official opening of the Blanco Road is indeed a reflection of Provincial Government's commitment, in collaboration with Local Government, to invest in a sustainable future," Standers said.
Standers said that the upgrading of "our roads infrastructure is indicative of our commitment to establish an enabling environment that puts people back to work, allows skills transfer, adds to the existing Integrated Public Transport Network and impact the lives of the local community."
"This upgrading and rehabilitation project has indeed improved road safety for local residents and tourists that travel to our city and beyond. Today's official opening also serves as a yardstick of what can be achieved through partnerships between the Provincial and Local Government in sharing best practises and resources in the realisation of common goals."
Wednesday's road opening ceremony was attended by Western Cape Minister of Transport and Public Works, Donald Grant.
