George man appears in court for the possession of drugs valued at R1.2 million

A man from George remains in custody after he was arrested for the possession of drugs worth an estimated R1.2 million.
Correspondent Louise Karsten reports that 37-year old man was travelling on a minibus on the N-1 highway when he was arrested.
She says police found more than two kilograms of Mandrax and 500 grams of Tik in his luggage.
The suspect who is originally from Lawaaikamp in George was caught with the drugs while members of the Vehicle Investigation Section unit together with police held a roadblock outside Beaufort West.
The Mercedes-Benz minibus, which was travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town was stopped and 2,9kg mandrax as well as 500g tik was found in the man's backpack.
He was arrested and appeared in the Beaufort West Magistrate's Court for the possession of drugs.
The man remains in custody and will appear in court again on the 23rd of January.
