George police are investigating a domestic shooting in which a police officer and his wife died in tragic circumstances on Tuesday night.
Police spokesperson, Captain Dumile Gwavu, says it appears that a George police constable shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself.
The bodies of 35-year-old Sibongoseni Plaatjie and his 30-year-old wife Amanda were found lying on the bedroom floor in their home in Thembalethu.
Captain Gwavu says police officers rushed to the house in Zone 8 after neighbours alerted them to gunshots being fired.
A service firearm as well as seven spent cartridges and one live round of ammunition were found at the scene.
Captain Gwavu says the couple's one-year-old child was found unharmed inside the house.
An inquest docket has been opened and a case of murder is being investigated at the Thembalethu police station.
