An 81-year Eastern Cape grandmother is in the intensive care unit of a Butterworth Hospital after reportedly being stabbed and left for dead in a village at Nqamakwe near the town.
Police said that a case of attempted murder is under investigation following the incident earlier this week.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Mnquma Municipality Women's Forum will visit her bedside on Thursday.
Municipality spokesperson, Loyiso Mpalantshane, said she is in critical condition following the incident at Kambi Village.
He said they are calling on anyone with information regarding "this heinous act" to please come forward.
