A 32 year old policewoman from SAPS Gelvandale appeared in the New Brighton magistrate's court in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday on a charge of murder.
Constable Nosicelo Kamba was arrested at her home in Kwazekhele on Tuesday and charged with the murder of 36 year-old Constable Vuyo Matshisi.
His body was found in the boot of a burnt out car in Peddie on the 2nd of July this year.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu said investigations revealed that the last cell phone reception was picked up from the house of Constable Kamba the previous day.
She is also the mother of his 5-month- old child.
Kamba is the second person to be arrested in connection with the case, after 34 year old Lunga Mbondo was arrested in Kareedouw on the 14th of August and charged with Matshisi's murder.
Colonel Naidu said both accused will be back in court on the 30th of August for a formal bail application.
" The Cluster Commander for Mount Road Cluster, Maj Gen Funeka Siganga expressed her concern especially when 'one of our own is suspected of a heinous crime against a colleague'. Major General Siganga has called on members to seek the assistance of our professional counsellors within the SAPS- Employee Health and Wellness," she said.
The case is being investigated by the Hawks in Port Elizabeth.
Meanwhile, East London police are investigating a murder and an attempted murder case after two women in their 50's were found with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies near the Buffalo Pass Road on Tuesday night.
Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said one of the victims managed to crawl from the bushes to the side of the road where she was found by a passing traffic officer.
The seriously injured woman was able to give police important information on what had happened and a male suspect was arrested a short while later.
The woman is fighting for her life in hospital.
The other woman was found in the bushes and declared dead on the scene.
