The search for a man who went missing while swimming at Brighton Beach in Gqeberha is expected to continue on Monday.
The NRSI says reports of a drowning in progress was reported on Sunday afternoon.
Spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, says the NRSI, Blue Water Bay Lifeguards and police responded to the scene.
He says the man, from Johannesburg, believed to be in his 20s went missing in the surf while swimming.
Lambinon says his friend reportedly tried to rescue him but was unsuccessful.
Despite a joint extensive sea and shoreline search, there was no sign of him.
The name of the missing man was not released to the media.
