Gqeberha police are searching for approximately six men who allegedly robbed young hockey players at a guest house in Beverley Grove during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says according to information, it is alleged that some of the hockey players retired to their rooms on Saturday evening, and shortly after midnight, two girls sharing a room were awakened by three unknown men in the room.
She says one had a firearm and the other two had knives.
Their hands were tied and the room was ransacked.
Colonel Naidu says a short while later, another two teenagers were ushered into the room and also tied up.
She says the suspects were surprised by the team manager and other players who had entered the guesthouse through the sliding door and they fled with clothing, cellphones, sim cards, laptops, a Wi-Fi router, an iPad, and cash.
No shots were fired and no one was injured. were taken.
The team is from Gauteng.
A case of business robbery is under investigation.
The girls involved were from the Southern Gauteng and Northern Gauteng under-21 hockey teams that were in Gqeberha for the SA under-21 hockey interprovincial.
The tournament concluded on Saturday afternoon at the Gelvandale Astro where the Northern Blues had beaten Southern Gauteng in a penalty shootout in the final.
