Police in Mossel Bay are hunting for a man who allegedly raped and strangled a woman last week, before leaving her for dead.
According to a statement from police, the 43-year-old victim drove to the Eco Stop Engen Garage near Heather Park in George on the 29th of August where she met the unknown suspect from whom she requested to show her where she could buy drugs.
The suspect introduced himself as Edward and volunteered to take her to his residence in Pacaltsdorp where she could buy drugs.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie said the suspect asked to drive her vehicle to avoid suspicion and she adhered to his request.
They first stopped for petrol in York Street but the victim became suspicious when the suspect suddenly took the off-ramp to Mossel Bay and drove in the direction of Great Brak River.
He then stopped near Buffelsdrift Farm where he assaulted and raped her repeatedly.
Pojie says he then pulled her out of the vehicle and tried to strangle her with a piece of rope which he later used to tie her hands and feet. He then left her for dead and drove off with her vehicle.
Pojie said the vehicle is a red and white VW Golf with registration number CAW 55579, a 1985/86 model.
He said the victim managed to manoeuvre herself to the roadside by rolling towards the N2 where she was found by a truck driver who alerted the police.
He is wanted on multiple counts of rape, attempted murder and theft of a motor vehicle.
