Garden Route traffic authorities gear up for Easter influx

Traffic authorities in the Garden Route are gearing up for the Easter weekend influx of motorists.

On Monday, George Municipality's Law Enforcement officials joined Eden District Traffic Services, Western Cape Provincial Traffic Services and other stakeholders, to launch the regional Easter Operational Plan.

In a statement the George Municipality said the operation is based on the vision for "zero" road fatalities, injuries and road trauma on identified high risk roads on the Western Cape network.

Operation " Zero" will also be officially launched  as part of the Easter 2015 operations at the Huguenot Toll Plaza on the N1.

Quinton Williams from George Provincial Traffic says they want motorists to be especially aware of the safety of pedestrians during the Easter holidays.

Vukile Oliphant, the Traffic Chief of Knysna, says joint operations are needed between the different stakeholders with the primary focus on pedestrian safety, commuter safety, passenger safety and drivers or vehicle compliance.
