Garden Route National park calls on business owners

The Garden Route's natural beauty is one of the reasons tourists flock to the region every year, but it also lends itself to outdoor adventure activities and has become popular among adrenalin junkies over the years.

The Garden Route National Park is therefore calling on business owners to submit expressions of interest in providing such activities within the park's borders.
A study conducted on the future state of national parks identified "activity development" as a priority for the Garden Route National Park and park management identified "adventure activities", which would meet both its conservation mandate and stimulate tourism in the region, as the way forward.

Business development manager for the Garden Route National Park Andile Namntu said the park aimed to utilise its natural assets to stimulate the implementation "of qualitative events and adventure sporting activities" including trail running, team building activities, mountain biking and non-motorised water-based activities. Submissions must be made before Friday, March 27. For more information contact Namntu on 044-302-5629 or andile.namntu@sanparks.org

Park spokesman Nandi Nandi Mgwadlamba said of the more then 9-million international tourists who arrived in South Africa in 2012, about 558 000 headed to the Western Cape during peak seasons. According to the Western Cape Tourism Trends report popular tourist destinations included Cape Town, the Garden Route and the Winelands.
