The Western Cape Government (WCG) has predicted that a second COVID-19 wave of infections could hit the province by early 2021.
The Disaster Manager for the Garden Route District Municipality Gerhard Otto says a second wave is a reality for which they are prepared.
He says people have become complacent and no longer adhere to Level 1 regulations such as wearing masks and social distancing.
Otto says since the beginning of October, there has been a 120% increase of new active Covid-19 cases in the Kannaland area, followed by an 80% increase in the Bitou Municipality and 65% in Mossel Bay.
He urged residents of the Garden Route to stay vigilant and adhere to the golden rules of good hygiene.
