Port Elizabeth police were kept busy on Friday night as gang-related shootings continued unabated in the Northern Areas.
Warrant Officer Alwin Labans says there was chaos in front of the Mercantile Hospital in Durban Road, Korsten when six men in a white Isuzu bakkie started shooting at about a quarter to nine in the evening.
A 23 year-old man was hit in the side, buttocks and leg and admitted to hospital in a serious conditions.
Labans says a security guard was hit in the shoulder in the cross fire and a passing car was also damaged by flying bullets.
Labans says the area was cordoned off for several hours and that 26 spent cartridges were found at the scene. Police are looking for the shooters and have opened two attempted murder dockets.
In a separate gang-related shooting in Fitchard Road in Helenvale, 6 shots were fired at a man in his 20's. He is also lucky to be alive and was admitted to hospital with a bullet wound to his left arm. There have been no arrests in connection with this incident either.
