The Gamtkwa Khoisan Council in the Eastern said the local community should be consulted if there are plans in the pipeline to make a film portraying the life of Saartjie Baartman.
This, follows reports that US singer Beyonce Knowles plans to portray Baartman in a film she's planning to make.
According to a report by the UK's The Sun Newspaper, Knowles has assembled a group of writers and acting coaches to help her put the film together.
However, the Council's heritage representative, Kobus Reichert, said although they are not aware of any plans for a Baartman movie, he feels the Khoi-San communtity should always be consulted before any plans are made.
"I just want to state that we are not aware of any movie that is in the pipeline to portray Saartjie Baartman's life and according our traditional structure, we feel that at the very least our local community needs to be consulted and I think that's fair towards our local community" he said.
Saartjie Baartman was a Khoi woman who became a main attraction at a freak show in Europe in the early 19th Century because of her unusually large posterior.
Her remains were repatriated to South Africa and reburied at Hankey in the Eastern Cape.
