Fuel thieves nabbed in the Free State

Two alleged fuel thieves who fired shots at police have been arrested and will remain behind bars.

Police Spokesperson Captain Malebo Khosana says police noticed the two men who were parked in their bakkie at an Engen Garage in Ventersburg.

He says they had two Jojo tanks at the back of the bakkie and were pulling a trailer with another tank.

Police became suspicious when they saw a pipe that was connected to the tank, where the men were extracting fuel out of the tank hole.

Khosana says when officers questioned the men they said they were selling fuel for OVK, but soon after they jumped in their bakkie and sped off.

Police gave chase following the suspects who were heading in the direction of Henneman.

The men fired shots and police retaliated.

Khosana says luckily nobody got hurt and they managed to arrest both men.

Thato Pinkoana and Dure Motsumi, both aged 24, will appear in court again on the 27th of December.
