Police in Port Elizabeth have urged residents in the Metro, especially those who reside in Care Centres to be vigilant at night during load shedding.
This follows after armed suspects robbed a frail care centre in Chelsea on Thursday.
Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the 76-year-old complainant who resides in the home in Lakeside Road, opened the door for her dogs to go outside, shortly after 8 pm.
She says this was minutes after the lights went out.
The victim was approached by four suspects, two of whom were armed with a firearm and iron bar, who forced her back into the house.
Janse van Rensburg says the suspects demanded money before going to three other rooms in the centre where they took cash and phones.
The suspects fled on foot and nobody was injured.
Police urged residents to be prepared during load-shedding times and to keep doors and windows closed.
Janse van Rensburg also urged people to complete their chores and errands prior to the lights going out.
