Port Elizabeth K9 unit member Jack is racking up the arrests having apprehended 21 suspects in the last eight months.
In the latest incident on Thursday night, German Shepherd Jack and his handler, Sergeant Volente Baatjies, responded to information of possible cable theft on the N2 freeway opposite the Baywest Mall.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says members met the crew from the NMBM Surveillance Unit who were already monitoring the movement of the suspects.
Approximately six suspects were busy stripping the cables from two light poles.
They fled in different directions when they realised they'd been spotted and Jack was released, apprehending a 51-year-old man.
The street poles had been damaged and about 10 metres of underground cable, valued at approximately 3-thousand rand, was found nearby.
Jack's work for the night was not yet done, and at around 3.30 am on Friday he and his handler, along with Dutch Shepherd Dorn and handler Constable Angelo Windvogel, apprehended two men who'd broken into a Pizza shop in Cape Road. A third suspect was also arrested and they'll all be appearing in court on Monday.
