Fourteen by-elections to be held in the EC today

The Independent Electoral Commission says municipal by-elections will take place in three provinces on Wednesday.

It says 16 wards will be contested by 52 candidates, representing nine political parties and five independent candidates.

The IEC says fourteen of the by-elections are in the Eastern Cape.

Buffalo City Metropolitan municipality's Ward 3 is being contested by the ANC, the DA and the United Democratic Movement.

The ward was previously represented by the DA, but the councillor's party membership was terminated.

ANC spokesperson in the province Mlibo Qoboshiyane says there are 12 by-elections in Dutywa, after all 12 ANC councillors' party memberships were terminated for not following proper procedures

Ward Seven in Mount Fletcher is being contested by the ANC and the African Independent Congress. The ward became vacant when the previous ANC councillor died.
