Four officials in the Knysna Municipality community services directorate have been placed on precautionary suspension.
This, while an investigation into the irregular issuing of roadworthy certificates is concluded.
In January, a whistle-blower approached the municipality with allegations that officials in the Vehicle Testing Station were issuing roadworthy certificates without the requisite certifications.
Municipal manager Lauren Waring then tasked their internal auditors to conduct an independent investigation into the claims, which was followed up with a report from a forensic investigation.
Knysna municipality spokesperson, Athane Scholtz, says the precautionary suspensions of the officials are in line with a report to council last week which also recommended the municipal vehicle testing station be closed until further notice.
