Deputy police minister, Maggie Sotyu, says her ministry's been tasked by president Jacob Zuma to ensure that a Kenyan type mall attack does not happen in South Africa.
Sotyu was speaking to the media following a visit to Nelson Mandela Bay on Tuesday.
The Deputy Minister initially did not want to be drawn on the subject, but offered the following comment.
"One thing that I can say is that we can assure the South African citizens that we are there for their security and we have been given orders by the president that we must make sure that such things does not happen in our country"
Meanwhile, deputy minister Sotyu said she recently held a meeting with the deputy minister of police from Somalia to discuss the recent attacks on Somali's in Nelson Mandela Bay.
She said attacks on foreign nationals is not just happening in the Metro, but also elsewhere in the country.
"There were some proposals that came from them and programmes where we will have the Somali nationals and our communities in South Africa to bring them under one roof and find out what are the conflicts and reasons for attacks from both sides"
