Four men who sustained minor injuries in an accident were later arrested for being in the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, said they were taken into custody on Sunday following an accident between Herold and Uniondale in the early hours of the morning.
He said the men, aged between 28 and 42, were in a Toyota sedan which overturned on the N-9, and the men, who sustained slight injuries, were transported to the George Hospital by ambulance.
Pojie said SAPS members who attended the scene notice suspicious behaviour on the side of the suspects and alerted police in George to check their luggage when they arrive at the hospital.
“Members discovered two 9-mm pistols and ammunition in their possession with a number of live rounds. They subsequently arrested the four suspects,” Pojie said.
The four are due to appear in court in George on Monday.
