Four dangerous criminals on the run in Eastern Cape

Eastern Cape Police are on the hunt for four dangerous suspects who escaped from lawful custody on Wednesday morning at Wittlesea, near Komani.

They were originally arrested in connection with Cash In Transit robberies and rape cases in the Komani area.

Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says the four men were being transported to court from Whittlesea when they managed to seize firearms and a police vehicle before escaping.

The police vehicle was later found abandoned in the vicinity of Dongwe, however, the two State-issued firearms are still missing.

Brigadier Kinana said the circumstances surrounding their escape would form part of the police investigation. No one was injured in the incident.

The four awaiting trial prisoners are 33-year-old Mbeko Sturrman, 31-year-old Lundi Mzimkhulu, 31-year-old Mzuvukile Mzimkhulu and Odwa Siqanqalala (no age given).

Brigadier Kinana warned the community not to attempt to apprehend these criminals as they are believed to be very dangerous and armed.

Police are investigating cases of escaping from lawful custody, robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.
