Kirkwood and Uitenhage Police combined forces on Thursday night and arrested four people between the ages 16 and 39 for the illegal possession of protected cycads valued at R280-000.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart, says the bust was made on the R-75 near the Kirkwood turn off, when police followed a vehicle that had been spotted several times in the Kirkwood area over the past five days.
She says police also received a tip-off that the Gauteng-registered bakkie had been seen frequenting the area.
Swart says police seized 25 cycads after the bakkie's occupants could not produce permits for them.
She says the suspects will appear in court on Monday.
