Four people have been arrested when a protest by residents of Smutsville at Sedgefield turned violent.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says about 40 residents gathered around midnight for what he said was a service delivery protest.
He says public order police used stun grenades and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd when they began stoning police.
The suspects are between the ages of 23 and 35.
They will appear in court soon on charges of public violence.
Pojie says the situation in the area is still volatile and is being monitored by the Public Order Police.
Last June residents of Smutsville also took to the streets in a housing protest.
