The swift response by police and a local security company led to the arrest of four suspects on Wednesday following an attack on a couple in their house at The Crags near Plettenberg Bay.
Sergeant Chris Spies said five men armed with knives and pangas entered the house at around 9 pm on Tuesday night and demanded cash from the 63-year-old woman and 71-year-old man.
“They tied the hands of both victims, assaulted the man and ransacked the residence. The suspects took jewellery, two television sets as well as an undisclosed amount of cash before they fled the scene in the victim’s Isuzu Double Cab bakkie,” he said.
The vehicle was later found abandoned on the N2 near the Tsitsikamma Tollgates.
Spies said police investigation took the team to a garage where a bank card of the victims was used to purchase items at about 06:00 on Wednesday.
He said while searching for the suspects, members of a private security company arrested a man who fitted the description of one of the perpetrators.
“Further investigation took members to two different houses in Qolweni where three more suspects were arrested and some stolen items recovered,” Spies said.
They are due to appear in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates’ court on Friday, 19 March 2021 on charges of house robbery and possession of the stolen property.
