Fort Beaufort residents have been advised to boil and cool down their water before consuming it.
The Amathole District Municipality says in a statement it is once again experiencing problems at its water treatment works.
It says this may have an effect on water quality, adding that some areas will experience water outages while the problem is being resolved.
The municipality says it is expected that the water supply will return to normal by the weekend.
