The former head of the National Youth Development Agency, Andile Lungisa, has resigned from the ANC's Eastern Cape provincial executive committee.
His departure comes just days after he and several other people appeared in court for allegedly defrauding the Department of Arts and Culture of more than R2-million.
The ANC's Eastern Cape provincial executive committee met with Lungisa in Mbizana on Monday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane, said they accepted Lungisa's resignation.
He also criticised what he said was the excessive force used when Lungisa was taken to court in leg irons after handing himself over to authorities.
Lungisa and his co-accused face fraud and money laundering charges linked to a failed music concert featuring US artist, R Kelly.
