Former tennis champ loses court bid

Former tennis champion Bob Hewitt has lost his bid to have his rape case thrown out of court.

Hewitt's PE-based advocate Terry Price brought the application after the state closed its case on Wednesday.

He argued that the evidence of Hewitt's three accusers should not be accepted by the court.

Judge Bert Bam however ruled on Thursday that the defence application was without merit.

Hewitt has pleaded not Guilty to two counts of rape and a charge of indecent assault.
