Former tennis ace too ill to appear in court

Former grand slam tennis doubles champion Bob Hewitt was too ill to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Friday.

The 73-year-old Hewitt will face two charges of rape and one of indecent assault of young girls he had coached decades ago.

Hewitt's Port Elizabeth lawyer, Alwyn Griebenow, says the case was postponed to the 4th of October.

"The reason for the postponement are the fact that the NPA still has to make a decision on whether or not they are going to centralise the 3 counts against Mr. Hewitt at this stage" he said.
