Former tennis ace served with court summons

Former Grand Slam tennis doubles champion Bob Hewitt has been served a summons to appear in a South African court following allegations he sexually abused young girls he coached decades ago.

The SA National Prosecuting Authority says the summons was served on the 73-year-old Addo resident at the weekend.

The NPA's Phindi Louw says Hewitt was ordered to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court in August.

"All that I can confirm is that the summons was served on Bob Hewitt on Saturday in order for him to present himself at the Boksburg Magistrates court on the 16th of August. We cannot divulge any further information as the charges need to be formally presented to him on the day" she said.

Speaking to Algoa FM News, Hewitt said he's innocent, is looking forward to winning the case - and then suing everybody.
