The Gqeberha man accused of killing his ex-wife was declared fit to stand trial in the local magistrates court on Friday.
Johnny Baartman, 59, a former school teacher, is charged with the premeditated murder of his ex-wife as well as defeating the ends of justice
Baartman allegedly killed Desiree,57, "in the spur-of-a-moment" at their Bethelsdorp home in June.
After committing the crime, the state alleges that he dumped Desiree's body down a 3,7-meter stormwater drain next to Stanford Road near the Jagtersvlakte area.
Baartman was sent to the Fort England Hospital in Makhanda in October for psychiatric evaluation after an attempt to commit suicide by cutting his wrists.
Like his previous appearances, Baartman took to the stand in a grey sweater and a mask and hardly turned to look at his family in court.
His attorney Qhamani Sinefu, submitted the report to the court, which cleared him of any mental illness.
"At the time of the alleged offence, the accused was able to appreciate the wrongfulness of the act in question and act by such appreciation of the wrongfulness," reads the report.
The psychiatrist recommended that the law take its course.
Baartman previously abandoned his bid for bail.
The case has been remanded to the 1st of February, for further investigation.
