The Former acting CEO of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), Mthuthuzeli Swartz, will be back in the PE Magistrate's court on the 27th of February, where he's facing charges of fraud and money laundering.
A spokesperson for the Hawks Captain Anelisa Feni says the 58-year-old Swartz was arrested on Tuesday this week and taken to court the same day where he was granted bail of 2-thousand rand.
The search for a second accomplice continues.
Swartz was arrested by the Hawks following allegations that he and an accomplice defrauded a 41-year-old businessman in that they misrepresented themselves as having the authority to sell a section of Transnet railway line that had been chopped up between Elliot and Maclear.
Consequently, the 41-year-old businessman paid R1,5 million into the suspects' bank account
Captain Feni says the alleged victim never received the promised railway line in spite of the payment.
