Former PE Lotto Billionaire drowns in KZN

The man who drowned earlier this week in a swimming pool in Umhlanga in KwaZulu-Natal, has been identified as a former Port Elizabeth resident.

He was 36-year-old Lyall Anthony Nicholas Crofton, who had since left the city.

Crofton won a massive amount of money less than 18 months ago in the UK lottery.

The amount was said to be tens of millions of Pounds Sterling.

Police spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane, says they have opened an inquest docket into Crofton's death.

Emergency services said earlier that he drowned in a residential pool.

It is understood that the man's family had found him floating in the swimming pool.

They pulled him out of the water and began performing CPR while waiting for paramedics.

Netcare911's Chris Botha said medics placed the man on a ventilator while trying to resuscitate him, but without success.

His one sister said in a tribute posted on Facebook that they tried to save him.

Algoa FM News has learnt that Crofton's mother had just undergone surgery and was told in hospital about her son's death.
