A former paramedic has been found guilty in the Grahamstown Regional Court this week for raping a master's student at Rhodes.

A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Eastern Cape Anelisa Ngcakani says the 23-year-old Loyiso Coko was in a romantic relationship with his 24-year-old victim.

She says on the 1st of July 2018 she agreed to have oral sex but explicitly warned him against any penetration as she was still a virgin.

Ngcakani says he ignored her warning, forced himself upon her and raped her.

The victim laid a charge two months later in September and Coko was subsequently arrested.

He will be sentenced on the 11th of November.

Coko and his victim are now 25 and 26 years old respectively.

Coko is out on bail pending his sentencing.
