Former logistics officer at EC Health found guilty of fraud

A former logistics official for the Eastern Cape Department of Health has been found guilty of corruption, fraud and money laundering involving just over R357 000 by the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court.

Baxolile Ngoloyi, who pleaded guilty to corruption, five counts of fraud and four counts of money laundering was a supervisor in Bhisho hospital’s store's department at the time.

The National Prosecuting Authority reports that from December 2017 to June of 2018 he conspired with Sithembile Smith, the sole director of Eza Services and Suppliers, to make use of Eza’s bank account to facilitate fraudulent payments from the department.

Smith pleaded guilty to money laundering in August last year and was given a five year suspended sentence. He also turned state witness.

The case was remanded to the 3rd of May for sentencing proceedings.
