Former Knysna Mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies is back in the hot seat.
She was inaugurated as a Councillor of the Garden Route District Council during a Special Council Meeting on Thursday.
Shortly after her inauguration, she was also elected as the Speaker of the Garden Route District Municipality.
The Speaker position became vacant after former speaker and Councillor Mark Willemse resigned on the 11th of June.
During the absence of the permanent speaker, Councillor Barend Groenewald acted as Speaker of Council and served for a period of 7 months.
Bouw-Spies lost the Mayorship of Knysna in controversial circumstances in early June when she was voted out by an ANC-sponsored motion supported by two DA councillors – Willemse and former deputy mayor Peter Myers.
