A former farmer from Komani has been sentenced to an effective seven years in prison.
The 47-year-old Jacques de Bruin faced 16 charges of fraud and theft and was found guilty on 12 of those charges in the Cradock Regional Court on Friday.
De Bruin was found guilty on four counts of fraud, totalling R1 055 400.00, four counts of forgery and four counts of money laundering.
He was sentenced to seven years for each count but the sentences will run concurrently.
De Bruin defrauded OVK by issuing fake invoices for feed delivered to him.
He also breached his lease agreements with four other farmers which resulted in losses to them of at least R2.1million.
