A former police constable who was convicted of the July 2017 murder of her police officer boyfriend has been sentenced to life imprisonment at the Port Elizabeth High Court.

The 32-year-old Nosicelo Kamba was sentenced on Tuesday alongside her co-accused 34-year-old, Lunga Mbondo, who she hired to execute the murder.

The badly burnt body of 36-year-old Vuyo Matshishi, who was stationed at the Gelvandale police station together with Kamba, was found along with his car near Pedi.

In handing down her judgement, acting judge, Hannelie Bakker said Nosicelo's conduct was disgraceful as she incited Mbondo to commit the murder for payment, in an attempt to keep her hands clean.

Kamba's daughter, who she has with another man, was just a few months old when she ordered and made a payment of R3 000 to have Matshishi killed.

The child remains in Kamba's mother's custody.

Meanwhile, Mbondo was also sentenced to life imprisonment for the April 2016 murder of police reservist, Melikhaya Nqono, who was Matshishi's relative.

Kamba was however acquitted on charges relating to this murder despite Mbondo's allegations that she ordered his killing.

The pair were further sentenced to two and four years on charges of defeating the ends of justice respectively, while Kamba was sentenced to an additional three years suspended for five years, for the attempted murder of a woman who she believed was having an affair with Matshishi.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Kamba's defence attorney applied for leave to appeal which was dismissed.
