East London police have found the body of an eight-year-old girl at Dorchester Heights informal settlement near Hemingways Mall.
The body was found on Tuesday and is believed to be that of Lihlumo Mzini who was reported missing last Friday.
According to witnesses, she was last seen in the company of an unknown man.
Colonel Sibongile Soci says the girl’s 43-year-old mother was arrested for negligence on Sunday and appeared in the East London Magistrate’s court on Monday.
Colonel Soci says the woman was remanded in custody and will appear in court again for a formal bail application on the 4th of next month.
Police are investigating a case of murder.
