Former ANC Councillor re-arrested for alleged fraud in Aliwal North

The Hawks in the Eastern Cape say a former town councillor is in custody for allegedly selling municipal plots illegally to members of the public.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni, says 54-year-old Ntombizanele Williams was re-arrested in Aliwal North by the Serious Corruption Investigation unit of the Hawks on Tuesday.

This, after a warrant for her arrest, was issued when she failed to appear in court in April last year.

Feni says its alleged that Williams, a former Councillor at Maletswai Municipality allegedly sold the plots for between two and ten thousand rand, promising buyers that RDP houses would be built on the land.

She says Williams will now remain in custody until she's back in court again next Wednesday.
