A former Acting District Director for the Department of Education in the Eastern Cape, Luwela Mboba, has been called to testify in the fraud and money laundering trial of Nonthutuzelo Sizani, wife of ANC chief whip, Stone Sizani.
The state alleges that she had defrauded the Bhisho Education Department of more than R1.2 million.
Charges also relate to money laundering and the false or irregular appointment of several people as Grade R teachers.
Algoa FM's Raahil Sain says Mboba testified on Friday about the procedures that were followed in the appointment of Grade R practitioners.
Moboba testified that she would communicate with Sizani with regards to the appointment of these posts.
Defence Advocate Johan Wessels put it to Mboba that during her time as the Acting District Director there must of been numerous appointments for grade R posts, citing the testimony of the Special Investigating Unit that there were over 200 files of grade R appointees.
In response Mboba could not say how many she had authorised, if any.
She also could not remember any that she had signed for.
Moboba further stated that she should of signed the assumption of duty documentation, however these documents had never reached her.
