A Somalian national has reportedly drowned after disappearing underwater at the Knysna Lagoon.
A spokesperson for the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Craig Lambinon says their duty crew was activated at 3.30 pm on Wednesday following reports of a drowning in progress.
He says five local men, all Somalians went swimming when one man got into difficulty.
Lambinon says they threw an NSRI pink rescue buoy into the water but the man could not grab hold of it.
He says a friend then launched into the water but got into difficulty and had to return to shore.
In an outgoing tide, NSRI rescue swimmers conducted sweeping line free dive search efforts and SA National Park rangers conducted search efforts from their rigid inflatable craft.
Despite an extensive search, there remains no sign of the missing man.
A Police Dive Unit is continuing in an ongoing search operation.
