Ford Ranger
Ford South Africa is celebrating significant milestones this year for its local production of the Ranger pickup.
The company's Silverton Assembly Plant in Pretoria has produced half a million Rangers for export, with the 500-thousandth unit, rolling off the assembly line at the beginning of September.
Ford says its export-driven investment programme also encompasses the Struandale Engine Plant in Gqeberha.
The plant produces two engine derivatives as well as components for domestic assembly, and for exports to other Ford plants around the world.
Ford says just under 3000 units were exported through the harbour in Nelson Mandela Bay last year, and over 2000 this year, with the rest going through Durban.
