Police in KwaNobuhle in Kariega were alerted to an open field on the corners of Ponana Tini and Mondile Streets on Monday where the foetus of a baby boy was discovered.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said the open field is regularly used by some community members in the area as an illegal dumping site.
He said an Inquest docket had been opened at KwaNobuhle SAPS.
The body was removed to Gelvandale mortuary where a post mortem would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Captain Beetge said police were looking for witnesses and information on who the mother of the unborn baby is in order to determine the circumstances under which the unborn baby ended up where it was found.
