FlySafair says the airline has taken the decision to investigate a technical error on one of its aircraft following two flight diversions late last month and the latest, just two days ago.
Flight FA 143 which departed King Phalo Airport in East London on the 30th of March and the 5th of this month, was diverted to Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport in Gqeberha on both occasions.
Airline spokesperson, Kirby Gordon, says the captain was alerted to an indication error from a small component on the wing after departure and followed safety protocols by landing in Gqeberha rather than continuing onto Cape Town.
“On both occasions, our flight and cabin crews stepped in to ensure the utmost safety for all passengers on board,”
“Due to the nature of the landings, the team did not call for the brace position on either of the flights and rather assured passengers that the captain had taken the decision to divert the aircraft to Gqeberha,” he added
He says the airline regards this as a top priority and an investigation into the cause of the technical issue is ongoing.
He says no interruptions to FlySafair's regular services are expected.
