A 24-year-old man from Flagstaff will be back in court on the 1st of April for allegedly killing a 7-month-old baby.
Police Spokesperson Captain Nozuko Handile says he is also accused of assaulted and stabbing a disabled woman.
The accused was drinking with family and friends on Sunday when he realised the baby's father, who is also his sister's boyfriend, was not joining the party.
Handile says he then went to fetch the father of the deceased and continued drinking until late.
According to his sister he later became very quiet and when she asked him what was wrong he accused them of wanting to claim their house for themselves.
Handile says he then allegedly grabbed a broom, assaulted his sister, and chased all non-family members out of the house and locked the door.
The sister and her boyfriend, plus their 7-month-old baby and a disabled family woman were stuck inside the house.
The accused allegedly started to assault the old lady, stabbing her with a knife.
He then grabbed the baby boy and hit him on the floor.
The child's father managed to break the window to escape and call for help.
During this time a neighbour tried to save the baby when the suspect hit the infant on the wall until he died.
He was arrested shortly after the murder and remains in custody.
